About Our Business Filing Services

Indiana has a very diverse economy that includes everything from a strong manufacturing industry to a fast-growing service sector. With a gross state product that exceeds $359 million annually, there are plenty of opportunities here for the enterprising businessperson. But before you open your doors in the Hoosier State, you need to ensure that you have all the applicable business licenses. Among these is a seller’s permit, which authorizes you to collect sales tax on transactions.

This type of license also goes by a number of alternative names, such as wholesale license, sales tax permit, sales and use tax permit, resale license, and reseller permit. In Indiana, it is formally known as a Registered Retail Merchant Certificate (RRMC). You will not be able to sell goods in the state without a valid RRMC.

If you’re not sure how to get one of these Indiana wholesale licenses, rest assured that FastFilings is here to help you. With our convenient online form, you can order your Indiana seller’s permit in just a matter of minutes. It’s the easiest way to apply for a permit!

Who Needs a Seller’s Permit in Indiana?

According to the Indiana Department of Revenue, you need to have an RRMC “if your business sells goods or tangible personal property.” Your RRMC will be automatically renewed every two years, with no additional fees, provided that you do not have an outstanding tax bill with the state. Please note that an RRMC is not the same as a vendor’s license, which must be obtained separately.

The State of Indiana requires you to register for all tax types that apply to your business (e.g., food and beverage tax, motor vehicle rental tax). Consult the Indiana Department of Revenue website for further details.

Seller’s Permit Vs. Resale Certificate in Indiana

Although they have very similar names, these two types of permits should not be confused with each other. While your wholesale license in Indiana is required to collect sales tax, a resale certificate enables you to purchase retail goods tax-free so long as you intend to resell them. In Indiana, a resale certificate is officially called a General Sales Tax Exemption Certificate (Form ST-105). This Indiana resale certificate is given by the buyer to the seller at the time of the initial sale.
